Well...not quite. Last night I finished reading the Old Testament. As sad as it is, I'm thirty years old and have been a Christian since age eight; I've been in ministry for almost twelve years and I finally read every word of the Old Testament. My eighty-five year old grandmother faithfully reads the entire Bible through multiple times each year. However, I've managed to stay quite lukewarm when it comes to Biblical study in my first thirty years of life.
Here are some of my thoughts after finally finishing the Old Testament.
1. Reading Scripture with goals helps.
2. I thought I would enjoy Psalms more than I actually did.
3. The minor prophet books are actually really good.
4. Nehemiah is my favorite book of the Bible. I'm challenged every time I read it.
5. Doctrine matters.
6. God desires to show compassion a lot more than carrying out His warning of destruction.
7. We as a human race are a bunch of idiots.
8. Reading Scripture not only makes me a better student of God's Word but also a better student in general.
9. I'm thankful for "Westernized" names like John and David.
10. The Bible really can literally change a life just from being read.
I'd encourage everyone who frequents this blog to read more Scripture. As a matter of fact...right now, close your computer and open up Nehemiah. You won't be sorry.
i love that you said doctrine matters.
