I'm sitting here after preaching for our main services today. What an amazing and humbling experience. I haven't spoken for a main service since I lived in Mullins back in 2003. Quite a lot has changed. Not only have I worked for now three other churches but I've lived in two other states and had two children.
I'm so grateful for the friends and family God has surrounded me with. These people have encouraged me from five other states in phone calls, tweets, facebook, email or an in person word. Now that the experience is over, I'm praying there will be another. I do love the privilege of preaching the timeless truths of God. I love knowing that God is using me to touch someone's life. I'm humbled by the idea that He would use me to change a person's eternity.
At this moment however, my thoughts are with a family and a church that I've never attended. Today while I was preparing to speak the first of three messages, a Pastor in Illinois was shot and killed just before the 8am service at First Baptist Church of Maryville. I don't know if he had family or what the circumstances are at the church. My heart hurts for that community.
As a young man that is falling more in love with the church God has placed me, I can't help but think the Pastor of FBC Maryville is pleased with the idea that there will be people listening to the message of Christ that otherwise wouldn't have given the circumstances of the day. Please lift up a prayer for this church and the family that will be navigating themselves through this tragedy.
Make the most of every moment you're given. "When our hearts break, our feet should move."
