I had a great opportunity to write a post for the Access Elevation Blog today. You can check it out here. Access Elevation is geared for helping spread knowledge and valuable information to other church planters.
I love the recent trend of resource sharing. I remember when I first began my Professional Christian career (getting paid to do Ministry) I heard a lot about copyright and the bickering over who came up and owns what. Don’t get me wrong. I think that individuals or organizations should get the credit they are due when God uses them to do something new or exciting but the “ownership” issue always turned me off. I’ve got no problem with using other people’s stuff, be it sermons, illustrations or methods in general. I just think you need to credit those who created it.
That being said, over the last few years the church-planting world in America has kind of blown up (that’s a good thing to those over forty reading this.) With that boom has come a freedom in sharing ideas and resources. I don’t know who started it but I know who does it well. Life Church in Oklahoma and NewSpring Church in South Carolina for instance. That is one of the attractive things about Elevation Church. Elevation understands that because God has blessed them in big and public way, they feel an obligation to provide wisdom and opportunity to others.
North Point Community Church is doing the same thing in a different way. While North Point has many resources available to purchase, they also provide many free resources along with creating partnerships with churches around the world. If you’ve never heard or seen just what they are doing in terms of Partner Churches you really need to go here and see the list. And that’s just the North American Partners. Check this out to see the International Partners.
It really feels like the early church. The sad thing is we need technology to spread Christ’s message at the pace the first century was able to accomplish. Who knows what’s on the horizon. All I know is that I want to be a part of it.
